Friday I spent the day at Happy Hollow Park and Zoo with the family. Had a lot of fun. Was shocked to hear that Happy Hollow hires people to clean and care for the animals who need only an 8th grade education and pays them 45K. Crazy.
Saturday I shopped with the family. Then came home and BBQed ribs and vegies...yum!
Today: Slept in. That was nice. Actually, I woke up at about 8ish and was up for an hour and a half. Took a nap at 9:30 till about 10:30. Felt so good. Then it was off to FPCN for a memorial service of a great lady who went to my church. It started at 1pm but Nick O'Connor, Justin Verdile, and myself got there at 11:45 to set-up, sound check and rehearse a bit before it all started. It was nice to see some people (such as Krista, Johanna, Shari, John, Lou, etc...) that I had grown to care for over the past year or so. It is always great to hang out and play music with Nick and Justin. We played "How Great Is Our God" and "Revelation Song" and they both turned out really well. Got home just in time to change and take off to see the San Jose Giants play the Stockton Ports. Wasn't as fun and a pro game, but fun none the less. The kids weren't into it at all. Got home, made a quick (and late) dinner and off to bed.

Let me start off by saying that yesterday was one of the hardest days of my life. Granted it only laster 4.5 hours, but they may have been the hardest 4.5 hours ever. I've done 17 weeks at Fort Benning GA as an infantryman (11B) through various training schools. I've done a few years of competitive Mountain Bike racing. I also had one of the toughest wrestling coaches in this state.
Yesterday was simply my belt test for Krav Maga: We started with a 1.5 mile run stopping every quarter mile to do a set of burpies (hit the ground...do a push-up...and jump back up as fast as you can). When we got back from the run we went into about 1.5 hours of intense physical training (running hard while a partner give resistance, Planking Punches, Squat to kicks, up-downs to hard knees, etc...). On and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on it went. After that we got a 10 minute break to rehydrate and refuel. We ALL spent it eating energy bars, GU shots, and drinking Gatorade. Then we went into the grading (punching, hammer fists, elbows, knees, kicks, defense against chokes, defense against grabs, defense against headlocks, etc...) all while adding multiple combatives and "scanning and getting out". It was fast paced ("Under Stress") and brutal. I have marks on my neck and shoulders. When the testing was over we went to another run that they called a victory lap.
Today I am a little sore. Luckily my body has always healed quickly. We for a 30 minutes bike ride, a couple of hours in the pool, and another 30 minute bike ride (all relaxing paced). My calf muscles are a little sore, but all in all it a day to be proud of. I've heard a few people can't make it to the finish.
Time for bed.

So this may be a long blog due to the fact that I am writing about the events of a weeks time. Why a whole week in one blog? The answer is that I am in Southern California on vacation, and I don't like to let many people that I am out of town. Our home has been broken into in the past and the police told us that in most cases, the thief is someone who knows the house and has seen inside. So I don't share when I am out of town with too many people.
Today (Saturday) we left San Jose and drove down to L.A. Not too much happened except that Kai thought peeing on the side of I-5 was pretty exciting. Got to my Nana's house at 4pm.
Today (Sunday) we went to Disneyland. A little bit crowded, but not as bad as other Summer weekends. We went on Snow White, Pinocchio, and the Story Book Canal. Spent much of the 5 hours walking around checking out the sights and browsing through the shops. My Brother taught me a few Jiu Jitsu submissions and escapes. Learning Krav Maga I don't want to spend much time wrestling with someone during a street fight so he taught me the submissions that I can use to break arms and get out quickly. Drove to my Dad's house to spend the night. He lives in Sun City, CA.
Today (Monday) we spent the day hanging out with my Dad. My Brother drove down for the day too. We went to IHOP for breakfast then came back to his house to chill. We spent the afternoon shooting his bb guns at cans on the lawn, but one must have ricocheted off of something because a bb went through the neighbors window. My Brother and I paid the repair bill which was less the $50.
Today (Tuesday) we spent all day at Disneyland. I am so tired and off to bed.
Today (Wednesday) we went back to my Dad's house for a BBQ lunch. No bb guns...just hanging out enjoying time together.
Today (Thursday) we were at Disnayland. Kai and I got to ride in the engine of the railroad that goes around the park. Engine #2...the very same engine the Walt Disney himself would drive. Very cool. Later in the evening I went to Knott's with my Nephew.
Today (Friday) we went to Disneyland for part of the day, and hung out with family for the other part. My Dad came up to OC and we had dinner at Northwoods Inn.
Today (Saturday) Audrey and I left the kids with Grandma and went to the beach. Then did some shopping. I got some fighting gear from OTM. Keira got some sandals. Later I went to Knott's with my Nephew.
Today (Sunday) we drove back home to San Jose. The only ride we didn't go on was Matterhorn, which is Kai's favorite ride. Next visit we'll take him on it 5 times. :)

Today was fun. It was Keira's and Kai's last day of school. Kai had his party today. When I picked him up, his face was all stained with strawberries and cake. 2 hours of Krav training and 1 hour of escrima. I love fighting with knives. Can't wait to test for my next level on June 18th...yeah! Oh, I cleaned my garage today too. Still have a lot to do there. I have the kids all day tomorrow as there is no school, so I should get to bed. Nite all.

I didn't blog yesterday. This was brought to my attention by Nick. I guess it was really weighing on him today. I don't know...I didn't do much yesterday. Spent the day training (5 hours). Oh I started cleaning out my office. Das it!
Today I trained a lot...again. I went on a field trip with Keira's class to AMF Mission Lanes (bowling). Then I went back to training in the evening. After that I took the kids and got some sushi. I am so tired.
I decided to send some resumes out to Southern California. We'll see what takes. I'd have to take Nick and Justin with me though.
Like I said, I am tired. Today's video is based on some Krav techniques. Nite:

Happy Memorial Day
I should finally be finished with Audrey's bathroom tomorrow. Just have to install the cabinet doors.
Spent the day hanging out with family. Went to Mi Pueblo with Keira to buy food for the holiday. BBQed carne asada for burritos. So good!
It's been four days since I've trained and it feels kind of weird. I haven't gone that long without training and I usually train 2-4 times a day. Tomorrow I will be back to training which might be great. Hopefully I won't feel too lazy. My Mommy leaves tomorrow. She's been here for the last 2+ weeks. The kids will be sad but they will be seeing her again really soon.
So, I've met quite a few great men while in basic (Ft. Benning), and a couple of them have fought in Afganistan. I always feel a bit awkward when people thank me for giving my time in the Army when I never fought in any war. But to those I know and the many more I've never had the pleasure of knowing. THANK YOU!

Let me start off by saying that is was weird and REALLY nice to wake up on a Sunday morning with nothing to do (that is...not having to work). It feels like a lifetime ago that I've been home and had a Sunday off from working.
I finished the tile flooring part of the remodel of my Audrey's bathroom. I am so close. Just have to re-coat the cabinet door, install them, and then paint the main door. I did take a long break to hang out with Nick "in the pocket" O'Connor and Justin "thumper" Verdile.
Tomorrow I'm grilling Carne Asada. So pumped.
One of the sickest youtube videos I've ever seen:
